Support for Hospital Patients with IDD

Posted on: May 15th, 2020 by ict.support@surreyplace.ca No Comments

DSO is offering support to hospitals with patients who have a developmental disability. We are currently circulating a flyer to medical staff at hospitals that may need support. Available resources include behaviour, speech and healthcare specialists. For more information, see below or click here to download the pdf flyer.

DSO Hospital Support

Do you have someone at your hospital that may have a developmental or intellectual disability?

Do they have urgent needs? Are they presenting with complex, high behaviour or medical needs?

If YES, Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) is your first point of contact.

We can connect you to many services and supports in the developmental sector.

Specialized supports include talking with a:

  • Behaviour therapist for behaviour related questions
  • Speech therapist about communication challenges
  • Health care specialist about health-related issues

We can also help:

  • Determine if supports are already in place
  • Connect you/the individual/family with a crisis worker/service

Extended Office Closure

Posted on: March 18th, 2020 by torontodso No Comments

Update: March 31, 2020

After a lot of thought and careful consideration, we have decided to keep our DSO Toronto Region office closed until further notice to protect our clients, families, visitors and staff, and help to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

During this time, we will continue to monitor the public health authorities’ updates, and as things develop, we will reevaluate the situation. We are taking this situation day by day, and we will be sure to let you know when our office reopens.

In the meantime, we continue to support our clients remotely, and you can reach the DSO Toronto Region at 1-855-372-3858.

If you have any documentation you need to send, please use our confidential fax number 416-925-5645. We ask that you do not use mail delivery as it is on hold due the office closure.

Current Clients

Those who have a scheduled appointment with an assessor will be contacted by the assessor and offered two options: (1) to keep the appointment and complete the assessment via phone or videoconferencing; or (2) to reschedule at a later date.

All eligibility requests are going forward. However, responses may be delayed.

Please note that service requests are being processed, as usual; however, due to other agencies’ coronavirus response plans, visits may be on hold during this time.

Future Clients

During this closure, we continue to respond to all information requests by phone, and registration for the DSO Toronto Region remains available. Give us a call at 1-855-372-3858.

We thank everyone for your patience and understanding as we respond to this situation.
